How to play Color Sudoku
Color Sudoku is ordinary sudoku wearing a coat of paint. The values are soft pastel colors instead of bare digits — though every tile shows its number too, so it plays exactly like the sudoku you know. Pick your board on the start screen:
- 6×6 — a friendly, quick grid using six colors, boxes 3 wide and 2 tall;
- 9×9 — the classic size using nine colors, boxes 3×3.
Whichever you choose, the single rule is the one every sudoku shares: every row, every column, and every box holds each color exactly once. The puzzle starts with some cells already filled; those are locked. Your job is to color the rest.
Tap any empty cell and a little color palette pops up right there — tap the color you want and it drops in, no reaching for a fixed toolbar. Tap ✕ Erase in the popup to clear a cell, or tap the same cell again to dismiss it. On a keyboard, move with the arrow keys and press the number keys to fill the selected cell (0 or Backspace clears). If a color ever repeats inside a row, column, or box, the clashing cells get a red outline so you can spot the mistake and back out. Use Undo to step back, or — when you are truly stuck — select an empty cell and tap 💡 to fill in that one cell. Hints are limited to three per puzzle, so they stay a nudge rather than a solver.
Every tile also shows its number, so the board reads like an ordinary sudoku and stays fully clear if you are colorblind — the soft, matte colors are just a gentle extra cue. You can play entirely by the numbers if you prefer.
Strategy
The fastest openings come from scanning a single color. Pick red, look at where it already sits, and cross off every row, column, and box it blocks — often one box is left with just a single legal home for red. That is a hidden single, and on the smaller 6×6 board they cascade quickly.
When scanning stalls, switch to a cell instead of a color: find a blank whose row, column, and box between them already show every color but one. Only that one can go there — a naked single. Alternating between “where can this color go?” and “what can go in this cell?” will carry you through every puzzle here.
Work the most crowded lines first. A row or box that is nearly full leaves the fewest choices, so it locks down and feeds constraints to its neighbors. The denser the starting clues, the more of these easy footholds you get — which is exactly why the Easy pack fills in more of the board for you.
No timer, no guessing
There is no clock and no fail state. Every Color Sudoku puzzle is built to have exactly one solution and to be solvable by pure logic — you will never have to guess and hope. Pick a difficulty, step through the numbered puzzles at your own pace, and enjoy a quiet few minutes of color and deduction.
